Post jam update and bugfixes

Hello, voting in CTU FIT 2024 Christmas game jam has just ended and my game unexpectedly won the jam (I think that there were games that would deserve it more). First and foremost - thank you all for your comments, plays and ratings. Second, thanks for the game jam, it was really nice and interesting experience that brought many good ideas.
As for Snakyval, I know you want more levels, more mechanics, more challenge etc. But, before continuing in the development, first some bugs and small details had to be fleshed out, so I have prepared this small post jam update.
What have I fixed?
-
Fix: A crash when running snake into apple just after start. This was the only major bug present in the jam release, easily avoidable by the player… but slightly harder to fix.
-
Fix: Wrong music played when snake run out from the level without taking mask.
-
Fix: Snakyval logo strange letter positioning (missing pixel space between K and Y)
But I have also added/changed some small things:
-
Add: 8 new mask shapes. (So there are 24 now in total.)
-
Add: Possibility to restart the game after finishing it.
-
Add: Persistent (local) best score, so you can beat your previous runs (or let your family members / friends / colleagues beat you).
-
Change: Tutorials were remade. Some texts were put into levels directly, and original tutorials have been moved to pause menu (accessible by pressing Enter key on PC PICO-8 emulators or by pressing pause button in the web emulator’s lower right corner) - you can read them any time during the game. If you want, you may hide tutorial texts in levels using Toggle tutorials pause menu option.
-
Change: Made beginning of the first cutscene slightly shorter.
-
Change: Polished itch.io game page, uploaded more screenshots and gameplay gifs. In jam it was made in a hurry during its last 15 minutes, not much time to polish it.
Stay tuned for more updates. Expect some postmortem / development posts laying out my experience with PICO-8 platform over the following weekends and a much bigger game update later then (around February/March).
In the meantime… can you beat the 1765 points record set by @rudolfjelin?
